Your Place in Ministry – November 20th

The Leisure Group will have a “pot luck” lunch on Tues., 11/22 to hear Trussville’s Mayor Buddy Choat.  We will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 10:30 am and have our lunch around 11:30 am. Please bring your favorite, vegetable, meat or dessert and join us in welcoming our new Mayor. If you would like to attend and haven’t signed up, please contact Marie at 655-6911 or 835-9189.

BIRMINGHAM COMMUNITY CONCERT BAND in concert Sun., 11/27 at 3 pm in the CLC. Please come enjoy this fine group and bring finger food for a reception following.
Please remember to let the office know if your group plans to meet during the Holidays. Other than for our scheduled services, the doors will be locked when the Church office is closed over the Holidays, unless you contact us in advance to make other arrangements. So that we can all enjoy this special time with our loved ones, this year, the Church office will be closed on Fri., 12/23 and Mon., 12/26 for Christmas. For the New Year Holiday, the Church office will close on Fri., 12/30 and Mon., 1/2.

POINSETTIA FOR MISSIONS This Christmas season Missions is selling 8” poinsettias for only $20 to help support our Church missions. You can order a poinsettia in honor or in memory of someone special to you. Our poinsettias are grown by Rainbow Omega, a residential home to 79 adults ranging in age from 18 – 79 years old, with developmental disabilities. Rainbow Omega means “hope in the end”. Poinsettia Sunday will be Dec. 18th, and we ask that you leave your poinsettias in the Church Sanctuary until after our second service. Orders may be placed until Friday, Dec. 3rd. The completed order form, along with your payment, may be turned in to the Church office or placed in the collection plate. Order forms are available in the office at any time and there will be bulletin inserts during two Sundays in November. Make checks payable to FUMC and write “Poinsettia” on the memo line. You will need to indicate on your order where you would like your poinsettia displayed, either in the Sanctuary or in Grace Vision. Please purchase one poinsettia per person that you wish to honor or remember and to avoid any confusion, designate on your order form who is to receive the poinsettia. For more information call Louise Jensen at 907-2723. Thank you for your support.

ADVENT STUDIES – We have two studies open during the Sunday School hour:
– “Writing the Christmas Story” – Bring your Bible. Beginning 11/27 -Sunday School hour, in the Training Room. Led by Joey Butler.
– “Marry a Pregnant Virgin: Unusual Bible Stories for New and Curious Christians” Hosted by the New Horizon class, on the main Sunday School hallway upstairs.

Bridge Builders will be collecting gloves, socks, toboggans, flannel shirts (size L and XL,) for Christmas gifts for our homeless friends. We will be collecting these items during the month of November. The collection bin is in the hallway across from the kitchen. Thank you for your help with this project.

YOU ARE INVITED…Dr. Bill Etheridge and his wife Becki invite you to join them for “Christmas Open House” at their home on Sunday, December 4th between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Since parking is limited, the Church bus will be available, so please park at the Church and ride our bus. We look forward to seeing you there.

Please join us as we begin reading and discussing “How to Pray for your Children” on Sunday nights at 5:15 pm in the Women’s Study Room. Contact Kathy Roskam for more information.

YOU ARE A BLESSING!  Thank you!  Because of your generosity, EACH CHILD at the Lovelady Center will have A NEW BIBLE this Christmas!  A Lovelady Center teacher wrote to us: “Thank you so much for taking an interest in our children. Most of them come to us after living in “HELL” and don’t know or believe in God! We are so grateful for people like you and your church for putting Him in their lives. I myself have witnessed dramatic changes in some of our children after they were introduced to God.”  We need many Christmas toys for them, (all ages.)  If you have not yet donated, would each of you please donate ONE NEW, UNWRAPPED TOY?  Or, perhaps your SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS would like to help?  ANY TOY in the collection bin outside the Fellowship Hall is appreciated, no matter how large or small.  If you prefer to donate funds instead, please make your check payable to FUMC Trussville, write Bibles and Toys on the memo line and place in the offering plate.  United Methodist Women will deliver the toys when Circle One hosts a Kids’ Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 5th. Carpool at 5 pm from the back church parking lot.  Everyone is welcome to go!
