Storytellers – Four Alabama Singers-Songwriters in Concert
Sunday, May 7th
2:30 p.m. in the Christian Life Center.
Andrew Harbison and Karen Marrolli will welcome two guest singer-songwriters (Peter Francks and Emmie Chambers, granddaughter of Jim and Jan Briley) for an afternoon of acoustic music to benefit TEAM. Each of us will play several of our original songs and share anecdotes about the songs, such as stories about how or why they were written.
Peter Francks is relatively new to Alabama, having emigrated from the Netherlands to Birmingham in 2013. He describes his music as “a variety of mellow-storytelling songs” and says his current style is a return to his folk and Irish roots. “My love of music,” he says, “started in my grandmother’s kitchen, where she’d sing all the old Irish songs as she cooked.” He frequently plays his acoustic guitar at events in and around the Birmingham area.
Emmie Chambers is now a junior at UNA and is a blossoming singer-songwriter in the genre of Americana. She has already worked on several recording projects and is expecting to release her first EP (a CD of 3-6 songs) this spring. She’s been described by a classmate as “a very deep thinker, and I think that reflects in the music she writes a lot. The first time I heard her (perform), it kind of blew me away. (Her voice) has a really deep, colorful tone to it — a gift that you’re born with.”
In lieu of admission, please bring an item or two (or four) to help TEAM provide assistance to families in need in Trussville and the surrounding areas. They can always use non-perishable food, gently used clothing, linens and towels in good shape, paper products, and toiletries. This is a great chance to see four local singer-songwriters in an intimate setting while helping our neighbors in need.
